The school

Seametrey Children's Village is a school with a difference.
We try to be true to our mission as educators for peace and instill in our children since an early age a sense of responsibility, love and care for each other and for the environment, a taste for authenticity and simplicity, a thirst for knowledge and a readiness to go for it. We sow the seed for future success and a lifelong learning by following the child and let him learn at his own pace instead of setting an agenda for him. We provide

  1. a teaching based on the methods developed by the educationalist Maria Montessori used throughout the world
From the very first months of his life, the child has an inner urge to acquire independence. In order to facilitate his need for independent activity, a Montessori school helps the child to " do it for himself ".

  2. a secure and respectful environment
Seametry is designed like a house, more than a school, in a homely and intimate setting. The architecture is a harmonious blend of different materials - wood, plants - with fresh open-air and indoor spaces. Food for the children is daily prepared in the school's friendly kitchen

  3. unique educational materials that help the child to blossom, build his personality and open himself to the world
We offer a bilingual environment, lively and playful, in which the children can absorb both Khmer and English. The child will discover purposeful materials and activities based on :

    • practical life : washing the dishes, screwing bolts, cooking, using a computer

    • sensorial materials : to recognize and sensorially experiment with different dimensions, colours, sounds, smells that help the child acquire abstract notions and perfect his five senses

    • mathematics : introduced in a concrete manner through experimenting and manipulating quantities and symbols for numeration, the decimal system, additions, subtractions, divisions, etc.

    • reading and writing : approached phonetically using sandpaper letters and movable alphabets

    • the child's exploration of the world is offered through the use of botany and geography puzzles ; of small interactive projects introducing monuments, landscapes, animals, food, culture, arts and customs of countries from the five continent

In this homely environment, the Montessori teachers are trained to provide answers to your child's specific needs
The Montessori teacher prepares an environment that enables the child to develop independently. He doesn't " correct " the child's mistakes, the method is aided by the fact that the teaching materials possess built-in control of errors. Observing and acting as a mediator, the teacher guides and assists the child step by step in his discovery of the world

This year's topics and projects

They cover a variety of subjects with an emphasis on world geography and the universe as we try to open up the children's mind to other people and cultures for them to put themselves in perspective. Anatomy will come at the end of the school year making the children aware of their own humble body and self.

October through December: Western Europe
January: The Universe and solar system
February- March: Scandinavia and Eastern Europe
April-May: Life cycle of plants and animals , the food chain
June : The human body and nutrition

In geography we plan to study one or two continents each year. This year's topic is Europe incidentally because we happen to have more artifacts to bring this continent to life for our children. It's also an opportunity to make the children aware there is more to Europe than France and England and knock down some stereotypes.
